In conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) the Kentucky Department of Revenue (DOR) accepts the Kentucky Individual Income Tax Return for full-year residents (Form 740) and corresponding forms and schedules by using the MeF.
Electronic filing for Kentucky taxpayers is strongly encouraged by the DOR. Last year over 80 percent of Kentucky taxpayers opted for the safest fastest and easiest way to submit their individual tax returns via electronic filing. With this system refunds are issued faster. Kentucky typically processes those returns in 7 to 10 work days but by comparison filing a paper return results in an average of 8 to 10 weeks to process and issue refunds.
Electronic filing of the Form 740 also allows taxpayers to direct deposit their refund or direct debit their tax due from their financial institution.
